Margarita Cherenkova-is one of the brightest and most expressive saxophonists of her generation. With her natural musicality, emotional depth, and charismatic stage presence, she leaves no audience indifferent.
She began her musical journey at the age of 9 with the piano, but at 16 discovered the saxophone — an instrument that became her true passion. Just two years later, she began her studies at the Jazz College in Nizhny Novgorod. Although jazz was her starting point, she soon felt drawn to the richness and depth of classical music.
During her student years, Margarita founded Russia’s first all-female saxophone quartet, "Capriccio", which performed on some of the country’s most renowned stages:
– Rostropovich Philharmonic in Nizhny Novgorod
– The Kremlin in Moscow
– St. Petersburg Chapel
– Philharmonic Hall in Kirov
Their concerts often played to sold-out halls with up to 1,500 attendees and were regularly broadcast on national Russian television, including Channel One and Russia-1.
In 2022, Margarita graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Music and Creativity) from the University of Münster, studying under Magdalena Lapaj-Jagow. In 2018–2019, she was also a student of the renowned saxophonist Asya Fateyeva.
As a soloist and ensemble musician, Margarita performs actively throughout Germany and beyond, giving over 50 concerts every year. She has appeared on prestigious stages such as:
– Berlin Philharmonie
– Elbphilharmonie (Hamburg)
– Laeiszhalle (Hamburg)
– Rudolf-Oetker-Halle (Bielefeld),
among many others across Europe.
Since 2018, she has been the principal saxophonist of the Bläserphilharmonie Osnabrück, and in 2019 performed as guest solo saxophonist with the Hamburger Symphoniker.
Margarita is a prizewinner of several international competitions, including:
– World Open Music Competition 2025 — 1st Prize in the category DUO (two different instruments), Senior Artist (96/100 points);
– Classical Stars International Music Competition — Absolute Winner in Chamber Music, titled Artist of the Seasons.
She is currently the artistic director of two chamber ensembles: aStella Trio and Duo ConBrio, for which she creates original arrangements and unique concert programs, combining passion, creativity, and refined artistic vision.
